Saturday August 14th
Morning and
Afternoon: Abernethy Games /

The Games start at 10:30 am
Clan March: All
attendees please muster outside the Nethybridge Hotel at 12:15pm. Prompt
attendance is vital
The official opening of the Games will take place after
the march while the bands and marchers are still in the arena.
Evening: Banquet at the
Hilton Hotel, Colylumbridge. 7:30pm (Dress: kilts, Black tie, formal)

Transport will be arranged from Grantown and Nethybridge and back.
The evening will commence with a group photograph to be taken by Stewart

Copies will then be available for purchase from his studio in the Square,
Grantown.
Dinner will be followed by a tombola and dancing to the Graeme McKay

As requested there will also be a "quiet area" for those preferring
not to dance.

Sunday August 15th
Morning:
An informal Golf competition will be held at Grantown-on-Spey
Golf Club

Afternoon: 2pm (weather
permitting): A walk up Craigelachie (yes this is the real spelling!)

Afternoon: 2pm: Peter
Grant will give an overview of the last ten years' Clan History research.
Venue: the
Grant Arms Hotel, Grantown on Spey
Evening: 6:30 Peter Grant
will do a second session (venue as above) particularly for the walkers
and golfers
Monday August 16th
Morning: Visit to the
Battlefield at Culloden and new Visitor Centre http://www.nts.org.uk/Culloden/Home/
Expected departure from Grantown: 9:30 am Lunch at
Visitor Centre
Afternoon: Visit to Fort

Tuesday August 17th
Morning: Excursion into

followed by a tour of the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness courtesy
of Alistair Macleod, Archivist

(this will be of special interest to those interested in researching
their family history)
There will also be an opportunity to explore Inverness City Centre.

Lunch: bring or pick up a "piece" to eat
on the bus or, time permitting, lunch in Inverness....

Wednesday August 18th
Morning: A special tour
of Glen Grant Whisky Distillery. http://www.glengrant.com/
Glen Grant distillery also has extensive gardens which were laid out
in Victorian times - and ideal stroll for those for whom whisky is not
their "thing".
Lunch will be provided courtesy of the distillery and
there will also be an excellent opportunity for retail therapy at the
gift shop.
Afternoon: early return
to give you a chance to put your feet up!
Evening: Dinner on the
Strathspey Steam Railway http://src.insch.info/

Thursday August 19th
Morning: Visit to Braemar

followed by lunch in Braemar. This visit is exclusive
to the Clan Grant group as it is normally only open at weekends.
Afternoon: Visit to Tomintoul
(the highest inhabited village in Scotland). http://www.visittomintoul.co.uk/
You can choose between a "Nosing and Tasting" courtesy of

and a tour of the small Folk Museum (free entry). The tea shop at the
The Clock House seats 60 and there are gift shops..... or just soak
up the atmosphere..
Evening: Optional visit
to Grantown Museum. the Curator, Molly Duckett has kindly arranged to
open the museum for Gathering participants only. [Make your own
way there.]
Friday August 20th
Morning: Visit to Elgin.
The visit will begin with a tour of Elgin Cathedral http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/elgin/cathedral/
followed by a talk by Graeme Wilson, Moray Council Archivist http://www.moray.gov.uk/LocalHeritage/Assets/html_pages/single_pages/archives.html
(this will be of special interest to those interested in their family
history)
and then on to Johnston's Woollen Mill for lunch. http://www.johnstonscashmere.com/
This is a a working mill and tours are available. A little retail
therapy is a must.
Afternoon: Visit to Speyside

Evening: Ceilidh to be
organised by Norman Grant in the Clan Grant Centre: Duthil Kirk. Please
eat first.
Saturday August 21st
Morning: Gather at the
Nethybridge Hotel for a talk by Professor James Hunter, http://www.history.uhi.ac.uk/Profes2119.asp.
His talk will be entitled "A
MacDonald in the Camp of Sitting Bull: Highland Clans and the Indian
People". Prof Hunter is a well known author
on the Highland Diaspora and his book “A Dance called AMERICA”
is now a classic on the subject.

Lunch: The International Gathering will close with
a farewell lunch in the
dining room of the Nethybridge Hotel which will be open for our use
exclusively.
